Bhavani Dheekshalu
Bhavani Deeksha, also known as Durga Bhavani Diksha or Mala, is a Deeksha or Vrata dedicated to Goddess Kanakadurga of Vijayawada. Bhavani Deeksha begins on Kartika Pournami or on Utthana Ekadashi days in Kartika masam. In 2016, Bhavani Deeksha Dharana date is 10 November, 11 November, 12 November, 13 November or 14 November.
Bhavani Deeksha is observed for 41 days or 21 days
POLICE COMMEMORATION WEEK
On 21st October every year, commemoration Parades are held in all police units as a mark of respect to brave police martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The arms are reversed and two minutes silence is observed in the honour of the departed souls. The names of police martyrs of states, police and paramilitary forces are read out, to acknowledge with pride the supreme sacrifices made by them. The history of commemoration day traces back to 21st October 1959, when a patrol party of CRPF, led by SI Karam Singh, was ambushed by the Chinese forces at Hot Springs ladakh and 10 jawans were killed, the bravery and resultant sacrifice of jawans fighting at 16,000 ft. altitude.
Dasara Utsavalu
Durga Navaratri at Kanakadurga temple of Vijayawada is a grand festival for the temple. In 2016, Dasara Sharan Navaratri Utsavalu starts on October 1 and ends on October 11 with Dasara (Vijaya Dashami). With Kalasha Sthapana Pooja, celebrations will start at the temple on Padyami, the first day of Navaratri, Goddess Durga is decorated in Sri Swarnakavacha alankrita Durga. Krishna Pushkaralu
Krishna Pushkaralu is a festival of River Krishna which normally occurs once in every 12 years and is celebrated with much glory. The Pushkaram is observed for a period of 12 days from the time of entry of Jupiter into Virgo (Kanya rasi). Pushkaralu concluded successfully.
